Tea Time

I hosted a sort of housewarming tea on Saturday for the ladies of my former small group Bible study. We had a lovely time together, if too short, and enjoyed some delectible food.

First, because of my crazy schedule, I ordered a couple types of cookies from Whimsy & Spice on Etsy.com. The favorite were the Brown Sugar Ginger Spice Shortbread cookies. I really liked the Chocolate Earl Grey Cream Sandwich cookies, too. I highly recommend this baker. I received excellent cookies and service.

The rest I put together myself. Let's start with the savories.

On the white bread is sharp cheddar and Branston Pickle. I love Branston Pickle. From the comments of my guests, they enjoyed these sandwiches.

On the rye is Crab and Olive Salad with cucumber. I thought this was yummy.

On the pumpernickel is turkey and Munster with sharp mustard.

For the sweets we had:

Strawberries with almond cream (slightly adapted from this recipe). I added almond extract to the filling and I sliced an X through the pointed end of the strawberry to fill it so that it would stand upright on the plate.

Nutella Tarts - I used cream cheese instead of marscarpone and Hob Nobs instead of the traditional McVities biscuits. I also made them in mini muffin pans in order to make them bite size.

Apple Spice scones. These mixes from my mother's shop are super easy. The only thing needed is heavy cream. Don't make my mistake - I always end up rolling the dough too thin. But they still tasted yummy. I served them with Devon cream and orange curd.

And then pictured on the plate are the cookies I mentioned already.

The teas we enjoyed were:

Fortnum & Mason's Afternoon Tea. This is a lovely, light black. Very smooth and quite good.

Tea For All Reasons' Maple Leaf, which is a richly maple flavored Rooibos and Auntie's Pumpkin Pie, which is a black tea whose name explains it all.
